Child Dentist

Teeth begin to form during the second trimester of pregnancy, and at birth infants have 20 primary teeth waiting to come out. According to a 2002 study conducted by the American Journal of Public Health more than 50% of American’s ages 2 to 5 have never been to a dentist. Although there are many contradicting opinions, it is recommended that children visit a dentist when their first tooth appears before the age of one, and not later than the age of 3.

One common misconception is that baby teeth are not important. However, a missing tooth can cause the misalignment of all of the other teeth in the child’s mouth. If a child’s tooth gets knocked out, store it in a glass of milk or cool water and bring it to the dentist right away for correction. This will prevent large orthodontist bills later on due to crooked teeth.

Finding dentists for children can be challenging. Children are very sensitive to frightening situations and it is important to find a kids dentist that is sensitive to this. Most Pediatric Dentists are excellent at handling the fears of young children and adolescents.

The Children’s Dentist Directory is an excellent resource for locating a dentist in your area, and also provides extensive information on the care of infant teeth.
